CMA CGM orders 22 container ships
French container shipping group CMA CGM has ordered 22 ships from China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Group.
All the vessels under order are either powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) or very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), with deliveries planned between 2023 and 2024.
The order includes 6 LNG-powered containerships with a capacity of 13,000 TEUs, 6 LNG-powered containerships with a capacity of 15,000 TEUs, and 10 Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil-powered containerships with a capacity of 5,500 TEUs.
CMA CGM reported a net profit of $1.75 billion for 2020 on the back of the COVID-19 economic recovery. The company operates a fleet of 566 vessels with capacity of about 3 million TEUs. It’s order book consists of 44 ships with combined TEU capacity of 555,000, according to Alphaliner.
