US-based Global Crossing Airlines Group (GlobalX) has entered into a joint venture (JV) with ATB Aviation Australia to establish a new Melbourne-headquartered airline that will serve the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
The new airline will offer both charter and ACMI passenger and cargo transportation services to Australia and key Asian markets.
GlobalX said the joint venture entity will utilise Airbus A320 aircraft following the successful completion of all regulatory and compliance requirements, including obtaining its initial application, approval, and obtaining an Australian Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
Targeting a start of operations in late 2025, the new joint venture entity aims to expand its fleet to 10 aircraft within its first five years of operation.
With the charter flight market in Asia Pacific projected to reach $6.8bn annually, the new joint venture entity is well-positioned to capitalise on this demand, said GlobalX. The new airline will also support leading regional carriers during peak travel seasons.

GlobalX currently operates a fleet of 18 Airbus A321 passenger and cargo aircraft, serving markets in the US, the Caribbean, and Latin America. GlobalX is also the only North American operator of the Airbus A321P2F freighter.
Despite its efforts to build up its A321 passenger to freighter (P2F) fleet over the last few years, GlobalX said in February that it would shift its attention back to passenger operations.
