China Southern flies into Doha

China Southern Airlines has launched a four flights a week connection between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) in China and Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, Qatar.

The carrier is operating the connection, which launched on April 22, with Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

This new China Southern link complements Qatar Airways’ flights to seven locations in China – Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and Xiamen as well as Guangzhou.

China Southern has become only the second Chinese carrier to serve DOH – the other is Xiamen Airlines.

It is the fourth airline to commence operations to the airport in 2024, adding to Akasa Air, Japan Airlines and Garuda Indonesia.

Sujata Suri, senior vice president of finance and procurement at DOH, commented: “China is one of our strategic markets. The commencement of China Southern Airlines’ flights to Hamad International Airport will bolster trade lines between both countries, cater to the anticipated growth in traffic movement and offer better connectivity for millions of travelers.

“This partnership will strengthen our position in becoming the preferred hub to connect China with Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.”

Last year, Qatar Airways Cargo and Xiamen Airlines began partnering on bellyhold capacity on passenger flights between China and Qatar.

Xiamen Airlines was expecting to offer by the end of October nine weekly flights from Beijing’s Daxing International Airport (PKX) and Xiamen (XMN) into Doha, offering a total of 100 tonnes of cargo capacity.

Per the agreement, Qatar Airways Cargo would be able to offer the belly capacity to its customers.
